Best automated trading platforms for non-traders
Most "automated" crypto products are automated in the sense that a machine executes. They are not automated in the sense that you stop making decisions. A grid bot automates execution and hands you the grid spacing, the range, the pair, and the rebalancing threshold to figure out.
If you do not want to trade, the useful ranking is not by returns. It is by how many decisions the product still requires from you, and how bad each one is to get wrong.
Compare by decisions required
| Custodial earn products | Copy trading | Manager-led vaults | Curated agents | Bot toolkits | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Examples | Coinbase Earn, Binance Earn | Exchange copy-trading desks | Hyperliquid, Drift vaults | Deploy Finance | 3Commas, self-hosted bots |
| Decisions you make | Which product, which asset, which lock-up term | Which trader to follow, and when to stop | Which manager, and how much | Which agent, and how much | Strategy, indicators, sizing, entries, exits, maintenance |
| Decisions made for you | Everything after enrollment | Every trade | Every trade | Every trade, within a published mandate | None |
| Who holds your funds | The exchange | The exchange | A shared vault address | Your own wallet | Your exchange account or connected wallet |
| Failure mode if you choose badly | A low rate, or a lock you regret | Following a trader through a drawdown | A manager's bad quarter, shared with the pool | A strategy that underperforms its mandate | A strategy you built that does not work |
| Ongoing attention | None | Monitoring the trader | Monitoring the vault | Monitoring the allocation | Continuous |
Custodial earn products
Coinbase Earn and Binance Earn are the honest baseline. There is no trading involved — returns come from network staking, lending-style yield, or structured products, not from a strategy taking positions.
Coinbase does not charge a fee to stake or unstake, but takes a commission out of gross rewards, commonly cited in the 25–35% range depending on the asset. Binance Earn spans Simple Earn (flexible and locked), staking, and Advanced Earn products like Dual Investment, with terms set individually per product. Both require identity verification, and both are custodial: your assets sit with the exchange the entire time.
Right for you if you want the fewest possible decisions and are comfortable with exchange custody and the commission.
Copy trading
Follow a trader; their positions mirror into your account. It sounds like the ultimate non-trader product and it quietly is not: you are now evaluating a person, which is harder than evaluating a strategy, and you have to decide when to stop following them — usually during a drawdown, which is exactly when judgment is worst.
Right for you if you have a specific trader whose record and method you have genuinely assessed.
Manager-led vaults
Deposit into a pool a manager trades. Hyperliquid offers HLP, the protocol-owned vault running its own market-making and liquidation strategies with no separate leader performance fee, alongside permissionless user-led vaults. Drift runs manager-led vaults on Solana where a delegate places and cancels orders for the pool but cannot withdraw principal.
The decision is compressed to one choice — which manager — but that choice carries a lot. You also accept the lock: HLP holds new deposits four days from your most recent deposit, Drift requires a redemption request plus a notice period commonly cited around one to seven days, and user-led vault managers commonly take a performance fee often cited in the 20–30% range.
Right for you if you are comfortable pooling with other depositors and have a manager you want to back.
Curated agents
A curated agent compresses the decision to which published mandate, and then does not ask you anything else.
Deploy Finance runs two, both funded and settled in USDC:
- Income: Funding Rates — market-neutral. It holds long spot against a short perpetual on the same asset so price movement cancels, and collects funding. Minimum $100 USDC.
- Superstar — directional. Long, short, or flat across spot, perpetuals, and HIP-3 markets on a four-hour cycle, sizing every position from a fixed loss budget. Minimum $10,000 USDC.
Sign in with email or Google, fund the wallet with USDC, choose an agent and an allocation, and approve the trading permission. Once funds are deployed and the agent delegated, no further steps are required from you.
For non-traders specifically, three things matter:
- No configuration surface. There are no indicators to tune or thresholds to set, so there is nothing to misconfigure.
- Your funds stay in your wallet. The agent gets a scoped session key that can trade but cannot transfer or withdraw. You can revoke it at any time.
- No fee on your deposits. No subscription, management fee, or performance cut; you pay gas and exchange trade fees.
Right for you if you want a defined strategy running on capital you still hold, and you would rather assess a published mandate than a person.
Bot toolkits
3Commas connects to exchange accounts through API keys and a Web3 connection to Hyperliquid, offering DCA, Grid, and Signal Bots, SmartTrade, and an AI Assistant that can draft and backtest a DCA configuration.
It is excellent software and it is not a non-trader product. The automation executes rules you are responsible for designing, testing, and maintaining. If you do not have a strategy, a toolkit does not give you one.
Right for you if you actually want to become a trader.
The honest summary
If you want the fewest decisions and accept custody, use a custodial earn product. If you want a defined trading strategy without becoming a trader, and want to keep custody, use a curated agent. If you want to back a person or a protocol's own book and accept pooling and a lock, use a vault. If you want to build the strategy yourself, use a toolkit — and expect it to be a hobby.
Automation does not reduce market risk. Agents, vaults, and bots all trade perpetual futures, which carry liquidation, funding-reversal, venue, and execution risk. Backtested results are simulated and are not a record of live trading. Read Risks before allocating.
